Your training session will be uniquely tailored to your ability and energy levels, and backed by my expertise.
Having trained many clients for over 20 years I have gained a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of fitness. I enjoy passing on the skills I have to enable my clients to reach their goals and lead a more fulfilled day-to-day life.
How Personal Training Works
After an initial consultation a bespoke training programme will be designed that incorporates the tools to help you achieve your specific goals. This may include weight training, mobility work, sports specific exercises, injury rehabilitation, injury prevention, boxing or circuit training.
Boxing
Boxing is one of the fastest growing forms of exercise. More and more people are discovering its benefits — such as increased fitness, stamina, and more overall confidence — whilst having fun learning a new skill. All equipment is provided, and teaching is in a private 1-2-1 environment.
Whatever your level of fitness or boxing ability, I love teaching the skills you'll need to have fun whilst keeping fit. For me, there is no better feeling than seeing someone who has never boxed before smiling when they hit the pads correctly.

Sports Massage
We are all aware of the benefits of massage in helping either to relax, invigorate or aid recovery to certain areas of the body. At Pulse I can offer sports massage either as a full treatment, or I can incorporate particular treatments within a personal training session if requested.
If required you can also be given appropriate exercises to help improve mobility and flexibility to aid recovery.
Intrinsic Biomechanics
Intrinsic Biomechanics is the analysis of the internal mechanics of the body by way of movement screening. It includes the way in which muscles, bones, and joints work together to produce movement, as well as the forces and stresses that are placed on these structures during activity.
Biomechanics can determine if there are any imbalances that may be causing discomfort or inhibiting movement, which can lead to injury or poor performance, which may then lead to a poor quality of life.
By analyzing your movement patterns, I can identify areas of weakness or imbalance, and create targeted exercises to improve your strength, stability, and mobility. My knowledge of intrinsic biomechanics allows me to modify exercises to accommodate for any physical limitations or injuries you may have, ensuring safe and effective workouts.
The system I use is an evidence-based analysis previously only used by athletes but now available in the mainstream.

How much does it cost?
Your initial consultation is £40, then it's £40 per session or £45 for sports massage.
How long are the sessions?
One hour.
Can a 1-2-1 exercise programme help my arthritis?
I would always suggest speaking to your doctor first, but exercise has been found to aid people who have arthritis.
I have had a hip operation, would exercise help me?
Yes, a tailored programme would help your recovery but again I would suggest you speak to your consultant first.
Do you teach the correct technique if I wanted to learn to lift weights?
Yes, I will always make sure you are using the correct technique. That's the advantage of a 1-2-1 session: you have my full attention, and I will always be making sure you are safe.
Do you consult with other health professionals?
Yes, I do. I have clients referred to me. I work with other fitness professionals such as osteopaths, physiotherapists and doctors to help my clients achieve their goals. Pulse is on south Shropshire's social prescribing list.
Can you offer sport-specific training?
I can create specific programmes depending on your goals. I have clients who are runners, cyclists and horse riders to name a few.
I am having a knee operation and my doctor has said I need to strengthen my legs. Is that something you can help me with?
Yes, I have helped many clients to get their legs strong before an operation with a personalised training programme.
As someone who sits at a desk all day, can you help me with my posture?
Yes, more and more people are feeling the effects of sitting down all day. A specific programme would be the correct thing to do.
Can you help with back pain?
You should always consult your doctor first, but as long as there are no serious issues then yes, a targeted programme would help your back.
Is frozen shoulder something you can help with?
Yes, it is. With the correct exercises a frozen shoulder can be helped.
Where are you based?
My purpose-built fitness studio is located just outside Ludlow in South Shropshire.
How much experience do you have as a personal trainer?
I founded Pulse Fitness & Wellbeing over 20 years ago. Pulse is south Shropshire's longest established personal training studio.
Over the years it has developed into providing a holistic approach to fitness and wellbeing where clients can take advantage of 1-2-1 personal training, sports massage, intrinsic biomechanics, stress resilience coaching and meditation. All in a private, appointment only, fully equipped studio.
I don't feel confident going to the gym, how is your studio different?
I understand why you may not feel confident going to the gym. That's why my studio operates on a private 1-2-1 appointment-only basis where it is just me and you working together to reach your goals.
Do you cater for all ages regarding improving health and fitness?
Yes, my clients vary in age and ability. I believe anyone at whatever age can improve their overall health and fitness as long as the programme is specific to their needs and abilities.
